Senior executives from Research Frontiers licensee SmartGlass International Ltd. (SGI) will present and exhibit SPD-SmartGlass(TM) and its other environmentally friendly products this Wednesday, December 2, at an event organized by Enterprise Ireland for architects, designers, construction professionals and developers. SGI is a joint lead sponsor of this year's event, which will be held from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at The Gherkin, London's 40-story iconic skyscraper known for its energy efficient design and unique glass facade that was designed by world-renowned architect Sir Norman Foster.
SmartGlass International is an award-winning company with its headquarters, manufacturing, and R&D centers in Dublin, Ireland and with commercial, sales and technical offices in the UK. In June 2009, SGI entered into an agreement with Research Frontiers to expand the geographic territory where it can offer its line of SPD-SmartGlass architectural products that includes windows, doors, solar shading screens, curtainwalls, skylights and roof-lites. As part of this expansion of their agreement with Research Frontiers, SmartGlass International and the SCHOTT Group also announced an agreement granting SCHOTT the right to sell SGI's SPD-SmartGlass products worldwide, except in North America. Sales in the United Kingdom and Ireland where SGI currently has manufacturing and sales offices will continue to be handled by SGI.
SPD-Smart(TM) products use patented SPD film technology developed by Research Frontiers. With the touch of a button or turn of a dial, users can instantly and precisely adjust the tint of windows, sunroofs, glass roof systems, skylights and other products. Automated adjustment of SPD-Smart products also is available using sensors or timing devices. SPD films can be combined with other glazing materials, such as materials used in armored glass, to meet a wide range of end-product requirements across many applications.
