Research Frontiers licensee Innovative Glass Corporation announced today that its energy-efficient smart glass will be featured on the “Mile High Skyscraper” episode of a new television series for Discovery Channel called Mega-Engineering.
The first airing of this episode is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 10PM ET.
More details regarding this announcement can be found in the Innovative Glass press release.
“The Mile High Skyscraper” explores whether humans could build “Extopia” – a mile-high skyscraper – in the future, and emphasizes the strategic role that smart glass from Innovative Glass could have in sustainable building design. Innovative Glass’s product line includes high-performing SPD-SmartGlass, developed and licensed by Research Frontiers Inc. (NASDAQ: REFR).
SPD-Smart products use patented SPD film technology developed and licensed by Research Frontiers. With the touch of a button or turn of a dial, users can instantly and precisely adjust the tint of windows, skylights, sunroofs and other products. Automated adjustment of SPD-Smart products also is available using sensors or timing devices. SPD films can be combined with other glazing materials, such as materials used in armored glass, to meet a wide range of end-product requirements across many applications.
“Some of our more visible commercial installations of SPD-SmartGlass and LC Privacy Glass earlier this year caught the attention of the producers of this ground-breaking series. Glass has become smarter and more functional than many people are aware of, and this episode showcases the benefits of incorporating our electronic glass into modern building design,” Steve Abadi, Chairman and founder of Innovative Glass noted. “This episode shows today’s architects and builders not only what is possible in the future, but what they can achieve for their clients today.”
