GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems to Exhibit SPD-Smart Armored Automotive Window at AUSA 2010
October 22, 2010. Next week, GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems, Inc., a licensee of Research Frontiers Inc. (Nasdaq: REFR), will exhibit at their booth #1864 an SPD-Smart(TM) armored window for the door of a Chevrolet Suburban at the AUSA 2010 Annual Meeting & Exhibition being held October 25-27, 2010 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, in Washington, D.C.
GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems’ SPD-Smart armored automotive window was developed under a program funded by the United States Department of Defense Combating Terrorism Technical Support Office – Technical Support Working Group (CTTSO-TSWG). The SPD-Smart window has been proven durable to armored passenger vehicle lifecycle parameters under this program, which, in addition to performance tests relating to security and level of ballistic protection, also included durability tests related to temperature, humidity, and vibration.
SPD-Smart windows, partitions and other products offer the potential for enhanced security benefits over conventional armored glass systems. Because SPD-Smart products are laminated systems, bullet-resistant and blast-resistant fabrications can be produced that offer high-levels of protection to vehicle and building occupants. In addition, because of their fast switching speed and wide range of light transmission, SPD-Smart products also can be used in security situations where instant view blocking or view preservation are required.
AUSA 2010 is sponsored by the Association of the United States Army. More information about AUSA 2010 is available from the event website.
Made using patented light-control SPD film developed by Research Frontiers, SPD-SmartGlass is the world’s fastest-switching variably tintable dynamic glazing technology. It is the only dimmable window technology that gives users the ability to instantly and precisely control the level of shading to any point between very dark and clear. This provides exceptional control over incoming solar energy while also adding to user comfort and protecting interiors. Available in glass, lightweight polycarbonate substrates, and combinations of these materials, SPD-Smart products – windows, doors, partitions, sunroofs and skylights – are laminated glazings that offer a distinctive combination of sustainability and security, can be controlled manually or automatically, and are available in custom sizes and fabrications.
