Hitachi Chemical Exhibits at GLOBE 2016 Conference and Innovation Expo

Research Frontiers’ licensee Hitachi Chemical, SPD-SmartGlass technology film supplier, will be exhibiting SPD-SmartGlass film at the GLOBE 2016 Conference and Innovation Expo in Vancouver, Canada from March 2 to March 4, 2016. The GLOBE 2016 Innovation Expo is a humming showcase of green innovation. There are emerging and established companies that are addressing climate change and food and water security with cutting-edge solutions such as clean energy, electric vehicles and more. Visitors of the expo will learn about sustainable business practices and interact with thousands of influential global leaders from business and government. The New Buildings Institute reports that daylight harvesting can save 35-60% on artificial lighting costs in buildings. SPD-Smart windows and skylights strongly support daylight harvesting goals by optimally regulating the amount of incoming natural light through windows so that occupants’ task-lighting needs are satisfied and artificial lighting costs are reduced. SPD-Smart products also dynamically regulate the sun’s incoming heat – capturing more on cold days and rejecting more on warm ones – thus helping to reduce heating and cooling costs.

SPD-Smart automotive sunroofs have also been proven to be a green technology while supporting vehicle efficiency and keep interiors cooler, also providing drivers and passengers with exceptional connectedness to the outdoor environment. In January 2015, calculations from Continental AG’s “Intelligent Glass Control” car using SPD-SmartGlass showed a reduction in CO2 emissions of four grams per kilometer. Continental also estimates that their Intelligent Glass Control system using SPD-SmartGlass system can increase the driving range of electric vehicles by 5.5%. When compared to conventional automotive glass, Mercedes-Benz reported that the use of SPD-SmartGlass significantly reduces the temperature inside the vehicle by up to 18ºF/10ºC. This increases passenger comfort and reduces air conditioning loads, thereby saving fuel and reducing CO2 emissions.
