Research Frontiers Licensee SPD Control Systems To Receive $580,000 Matching Funds Contract From New York State Energy and Development Authority (NYSERDA)
On February 24, 2008, Research Frontiers licensee SPD Control Systems Corporation (SCSC) announced that it will receive a $580,000 matching funds contract from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for the development and demonstration of a state-of-the-art, patent pending control system for architectural smart window products that use suspended particle device (SPD-Smart™) light-control film technology. SCSC develops and supports the installation of energy-conserving SPD-Smart products in small to large-scale residential and commercial properties as well as in vehicles. NYSERDA’s R&D program supports the development and commercialization of innovative energy and environmental products, technologies, and processes that improve the quality of life for New York’s citizens and help New York businesses to compete and grow in the global economy.
SCSC’s Wireless Building Control System include 8-window controllers (leveraging the company’s controller designs for the automotive industry), advanced sensors, dynamic tinting algorithms and other distinctive operating features including an interface with other building services such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and lighting.
The United States Department of Energy reports that buildings consume nearly 40% of the nation’s energy. Harnessing the daylighting benefits and energy savings potential of SPD-Smart glazings such as windows, skylights and other products, SCSC’s Wireless Building Control System will be a major advancement in the movement toward clean technology and sustainability.
