Our technology is film-based, which enables maximum design flexibility. The film can be laminated into glass, any type of plastic, thin chemically strengthened glass (e.g. Gorilla Glass), hurricane or security glass, or a combination of substrates.
Yes – SPD-SmartGlass blocks 99%+ of harmful UV light at all times, providing protection for people and light-sensitive furniture, carpets, artwork and artifacts. SPD-SmartGlass fabrications that block UV light up to 400 nm are also available.
SPD-SmartGlass uses patented SPD technology with a light-control film laminated between glass or plastic substrates. The SPD film, a ‘light valve,’ contains microscopic particles that align when voltage is applied, allowing light to pass through. Adjusting the voltage controls the level of tint.
